Phillips Petroleum Company is assisting relief efforts in flood-ravaged Venezuela.
The company has contributed $100,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund to help the agency meet overwhelming human needs.
In addition, Phillips yesterday delivered 2,500 pounds of medical supplies to Venezuela via a company plane.
"We are grateful to Phillips for their generous donation and help," said Mike Turner, Red Cross senior director of disaster fund raising. "Contributions like this help the Red Cross be there for families who have been hard hit by these devastating floods."
Martin Hutchison, Phillips' Venezuela country manager, said: "We are deeply saddened by the mounting death toll, the injuries, illnesses and homelessness caused by the torrential rains and devastating landslides. Our prayers are with the victims of this tragedy, and our employees are working hard to assist in relief efforts. We are grateful for the outpouring of help from around the world, and we're encouraged by the leadership of relief agencies like the American Red Cross. We are pleased to support them in their heroic efforts."
Phillips has 77 employees in Venezuela -- 44 nationals and 33 expatriates, including 31 U.S. citizens. All are accounted for and safe.
