Business Wire, Dec 7, 1999
ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1999--
COMTEX (OTC BB:CMTX) announced today ratification of a new corporate name - COMTEX News Network, Inc.
This announcement is the first of many strategic initiatives designed to securely position COMTEX as the Internet's leading real-time news and information infomediary - reaching millions of end-users in the Internet market, over 200,000 personal investors, 400,000 Wall Street brokers and 900,000 corporate business professionals.
COMTEX aggregates, adds value to, and repackages more than 45 worldwide real-time news and information sources, with a capacity to process 100,000 stories a day, for a distribution network that exceeds 375 companies.
An overwhelming majority of its shareholders agreed on Thursday, December 2, 1999 at the Annual Shareholders' Meeting, to change the name of the company from COMTEX Scientific Corporation to COMTEX News Network - a corporate identity that accurately reflects the company's position in the information technology marketplace.
Staff and additional resources have been added to the marketing and product development teams, directed by newly appointed Sheri Robey-Lapan, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Strategy, to drive the strategic mission. This team will launch new products and marketing communications campaigns to position COMTEX as the standard for value-added news and information services.
COMTEX News Network will launch its branding campaign on its new website, www.comtexnews.net, on January 1, 2000. Looking forward, co-branding COMTEX News Network and www.comtexnews.net, will build on the established COMTEX network and its proprietary software, while enabling the company to take full advantage of the Internet's growth and the challenges of an evolving industry.
"The timing of the COMTEX name change is perfectly aligned with our goals and the market demand on the Internet for comprehensive news and information," said Charles Terry, COMTEX News Network President and CEO. "COMTEX is the recognized leader in news aggregation and with the launch of COMTEX News Network, more companies will be able to identify with our corporate mission."
"As a .net company, COMTEX will continue to satisfy its growing client base with exciting new products and content from emerging business and lifestyle sources," continued Mr. Terry.
