Business Wire, Dec 9, 1999

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 09, 1999--

Synopsys Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), the technology leader for complex integrated circuit (IC) design, today announced the promotion of Manoj Gandhi, 39, to the position of vice president and general manager of the Simulation Technology Group.

Gandhi heads a team focused on developing Synopsys' next-generation simulation solutions to expedite system-on-a-chip (SoC) development and extend the company's market-leading position for its verification technology. Gandhi reports directly to Dave Burow, senior vice president of the company's High Level Verification Group.

"With his keen sense of the business, proven technology expertise, and deep commitment to customer success, Manoj has been key to the success of the market-leading VCS simulator and a strong force in developing and executing our verification strategy," said Dave Burow. "Manoj will lead our efforts to provide innovative and expanded simulation products, making it possible to verify the next-generation SoC designs our customers are developing. We are pleased to have him take on increasing responsibilities as part of the Synopsys team."

Synopsys' Simulation Technology Group is responsible for delivering the tools and technology required to make it much faster and easier to verify complex chips and SoCs. Under Gandhi's leadership, revenue from its flagship product, the VCS simulator, grew by more than five hundred percent in four years. VCS now leads the market for Verilog language simulators, both in terms of users and performance. Complementary simulation products that support the VHDL design language are also offered.

Gandhi has been a driving force in developing high-level design languages and simulators in the electronics industry for thirteen years. Prior to joining Synopsys, he held a number of engineering and management positions at Viewlogic Systems and Gateway Design Automation. While at Gateway Design Automation, Gandhi was part of the engineering team that developed the EDA industry's first Verilog simulator, considered to be a key enabling technology for the design of complex electronic systems and integrated circuits. He holds an MS degree in computer science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Bachelor of Technology in computer science degree from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur.
