AVT Provides Unified Messaging Solution for Dallas Independent School District; CallXpress Enterprise to Deliver Messaging Capabilities for up to 30,000 Users at 220 Locations
Business Wire, Feb 1, 1999
KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--AVT Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise computer telephony solutions, today announced that it will provide, the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) with the AVT unified messaging solution CallXpress Enterprise through it's strategic partner Fujitsu Business Communication Systems Inc.
In an effort to raise the bar and be more effective and productive in communicating within the district and with the community, the DISD chose the AVT CallXpress Enterprise system because it delivers a high-capacity, highly scalable, fault tolerant unified messaging system designed specifically for large multi-site enterprises.
As part of the installation the school district will deploy eight CallXpress Enterprise systems, which will be networked together via the AVT VPIM (Voice Profile for Internet Mail) compliant NetConnect product. Each of the systems will be equipped with the potential to service 128 ports, so as the district continues to grow they can expand their systems to meet the needs of their communication infrastructure. Installation of the systems began last month, and will continue into the third calendar quarter of this year.
With the CallXpress systems, district staff members will have access to all of their voice, fax, and email messages through their desktop PC or the telephone. Teachers and administrators will have the potential to have their own individual unified messaging mailbox, since the systems were designed to handle up to 30,000 users at the school district's 220 locations. Parents will now have easier access to DISD staff members who are directly involved with their child's education.
"Early last year AVT made a strategic commitment to deliver enhanced messaging technology to the education channel through our SchoolXpress program," said Randy Ottinger, President of AVT's Computer Telephony Products Group. "This agreement validates AVT's reputation to deliver the highest quality and the most advanced messaging technology to meet the needs of leading educational institutions and corporate enterprises."
DISD has chosen Fujitsu Business Communication Systems for the deployment of the DISD voice network. This includes the deployment of the AVT solution through Fujitsu as well as the installation of Fujitsu's F9600 PBX's, which will drive communication throughout the entire district. When complete, the new telephone network will be the second largest of such networks in the state of Texas, second only to the state government network.
