Duke University Teammates Elton Brand and Trajan Langdon Head List of Frontier Communications Oscar Robertson Award Finalists

Business Wire, Feb 1, 1999

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1999--Frontier Chief Executive Officer Joseph P. Clayton today announced the 10 finalists for the Frontier Communications Oscar Robertson Award, which recognizes college basketball's player of the year as voted by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

This year's 10 finalists are Trajan Langdon and Elton Brand from Duke University; Steve Francis from the University of Maryland; Mateen Cleaves from Michigan State University; Wally Szczerbiak from the University of Miami (Ohio); Richard Hamilton from the University of Connecticut; Andre Miller from the University of Utah; Baron Davis from UCLA; Evan Eschmeyer of Northwestern University; and Lee Nailon of Texas Christian University.

This marks the second consecutive year Frontier has sponsored both the player and coach of the year awards. In 1998, Frontier renamed the awards the Frontier Communications Oscar Robertson Award and the Frontier Communications Henry Iba Trophy respectively, commemorating the tireless hard work and dedication the two college basketball legends bestowed on the game. Frontier also sponsors college basketball's most courageous award given to an individual in college athletics who demonstrates rare courage outside of the playing field.

The field will be narrowed to five players by mid-February and Frontier will announce the player and coach of the year award winners during a half-hour national broadcast on CBS Sports, March 28, during Final Four weekend.
