CyBear to Partner with Sun Microsystems to Develop Healthcare Internet Applications
Business Wire, Feb 1, 1999
BOCA RATON, Florida--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 1, 1999--CyBear Inc., (NASDAQ: CYBR), the Internet based healthcare communications provider, is teaming up with Sun Microsystems to develop Internet applications for the healthcare marketplace. Recognizing the need for fast and efficient communication among healthcare professionals, CyBear is creating applications that establish networks and facilitate the sharing of information across platforms. The first application from CyBear is scheduled for release mid-February, 1999.
"We are using Sun's tools and technologies to revolutionize communication in a diverse and disconnected healthcare community," said John Klein, Chairman of CyBear. "In today's fast-paced world, the quick access to information in all areas of the healthcare industry is essential to quality patient service. Sun's vision for the future of Internet technologies in healthcare is in line with our commitment to deliver cutting-edge technologies to our customers."
CyBear is developing connectivity applications that facilitate communications between physicians' offices, hospitals, clinics and consumers. The next phase of applications will introduce broader consumer resources and productivity software to improve the patient's health care experience and provide the physician with more accurate patient data.
"Physicians are struggling to provide optimum care within the dynamic and sometimes difficult organizational structures in healthcare," said Bruce Elder, healthcare market manager for Sun Microsystems. "Rather than force physicians to assume yet another burden, that of computer administrator, Web technology seeks to help the physician by making the applications and content easily and securely available anywhere, anytime, on any device. This allows the physician to focus on what is important - managing the patient's care."
"This model of service provider offers a great combination of scalability, flexibility, low cost, and accessibility to data which is vital for making the best care decisions," continued Elder.
CyBear represents a new wave of emerging Internet companies known as Applications Service Providers (ASP's). In addition to offering Internet connectivity, CyBear delivers Java technology applications that are accessed and operated via the Internet. This new technology enables organizations of all sizes the ability to leverage the power of the Web to establish a flexible network infrastructure at a very low cost. CyBear's advanced systems and technologies allow customers to use the CyBear Internet services and establish a highly secure virtual private network (VPN) with no limits on location or scalability.
