Business Wire, Feb 11, 1999
OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1999--Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:COSFF) (TSE:COS.) has received the award for Best Software Internet Strategy at the WebSeller Symposium, a recent conference in San Diego, Calif.
Beating out competitors such as IBM Consumer Software, Macromedia and Microsoft, Corel received the award for Best Software Internet Strategy after a closed ballot vote by 45 Web sellers. The event was co-sponsored by El Segundo, Calif.-based Merisel Inc., and Beechwood, Ohio-based Levin Consulting.
"We are very honoured that Corel has received such an award," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "Recognition at the WebSeller Symposium is further affirmation that our new Internet strategy is working and that we are meeting the challenges of increased demand on the Internet."
Corel recently increased its commitment to the Internet as a means of communicating, community building and selling, which led to a 400 per cent jump in online sales in 1998. Corel developed a new Internet Sales team and increased its commercial presence by leveraging partnerships with many e-channel resellers which helped the company achieve record e-commerce sales.
Corel's eStore(tm) at www.corel.com/shop is focusing on downloadable products and exclusive offerings such as the Corel(R) Studio images available at the eStore gallery. The Internet will also be a prime focus for the highly anticipated product launches of CorelDRAW(tm) 9, Corel PHOTO-PAINT(tm) 9 and WordPerfect(R) Office 2000. Corel's Web site will also be a primary source for on-line training and technical support for these products and more.
The WebSeller Symposium took place Feb. 3 to Feb. 5, 1999, and was attended by some of the industry's top resellers such as Beyond.com, Buy.com, and Egghead.com. Among the 60 manufacturers in attendance were 3Com, Acer, Apple, Epson and Yamaha.
