IXLA Technology Used in Polaroid Instant Digital Photo Printer

Business Wire, Feb 11, 1999

DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 1999--

New Adapter for ColorShot Printer Connects Printer Directly to

Digital Cameras

IXLA Limited, a leader in PC photography and Internet software, today announced that Polaroid Corporation, a household name in instant imaging, has licensed ixla Digital Camera Interface (DCI) technology in Polaroid's new Direct Camera Adapter for its ColorShot Photo Printer.

Polaroid's Direct Connect Adapter for the ColorShot Photo Printer lets photographers print color photographs directly from their digital cameras, without a PC. The Polaroid Direct Connect Adapter uses IXLA's DCI to automatically connect the ColorShot Printer with selected popular digital cameras, allowing users to quickly and easily print single and multiple color photos or index prints of all photos in their digital cameras.

"IXLA's DCI technology enables innovative software developers, Web designers and printer manufacturers such as Polaroid to build applications that directly connect to digital cameras," said Dr. Soon Teh, President and CEO of IXLA Limited. "IXLA's plug-and-play DCI lets developers concentrate on creating innovative products instead of writing drivers. IXLA currently supports over 125 cameras, and we are constantly adding new cameras to the DCI library."

IXLA's DCI technology has been developed in partnership with digital camera manufacturers as an alternative to TWAIN as the standard means for connecting digital cameras to PCs and the Internet. IXLA's DCI technology supports seamless integration of digital camera features by providing a rich set of application programmer interface (API) functions.

The physical architecture of IXLA's DCI technology is modular; digital cameras are supported using DCI driver files that are fully plug-and-play. The software technology is compatible with popular programming environments such as C , Visual Basic and Delphi. Using the latest ActiveX and plug-in technologies, the Web components of IXLA's DCI are fully compatible with the latest Internet browsers from Microsoft and Netscape. Digital cameras supported include models from Agfa, Canon, Casio, Chinon, Epson, Fuji, HP, Kodak, Konica, NEC, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh, Sanyo and Sharp.
