Honors for Xerox 5800, WorkCentre Pro 600 Series confirm market success
Xerox Corporation today announced that four of its office products - one departmental copier and three workgroup fax systems - have received 1998 "Pick of the Year" awards from Buyers Laboratory, Inc. (BLI), the nation's leading independent office equipment testing firm.
BLI recognized the Xerox 5800 Departmental Copier as a "Pick of the Year" among machines with speeds of more than 91 copies per minute. The Xerox Document WorkCentre Pro 600 series swept three fax awards: the WorkCentre Pro 635 was chosen as the only "Pick of the Year" in the "Outstanding Mid-Volume Facsimile Machine" category; the WorkCentre Pro 645 and Pro 657 models were honored in the "Outstanding High-Volume Facsimile Machine" category.
BLI gives "Pick of the Year" awards to office equipment in several categories based on its demanding series of tests. This year, winners were selected based on testing results from 117 copiers and 41 fax models.
The Xerox 5800 Departmental Copier has been widely acclaimed since its introduction in 1997. The BLI award is the seventh honor captured by the unit from office equipment industry press and testing firms in less than two years.
"This BLI award reaffirms the 5800's status as a `best in class' product, and once again demonstrates our success in raising the standards for reliability, document finishing and ease-of-use in higher-volume copiers," said Kevin Stephens, vice president of the Departmental Business Team at Xerox.
The Document WorkCentre Pro 600 series, which won awards in all three of BLI's fax categories for which it was eligible, has proven very popular in the market. It sparked a 60-percent growth in Xerox unit sales in this product class during the fourth quarter of 1998 according to company estimates.
"In recognizing every model in the 600 series, BLI has confirmed our success in addressing the crucial user needs for increased productivity, reduced overall cost of ownership, and a migration path to the latest technology," said Christophe Labesse, vice president of the Workgroup Fax Business Team at Xerox.
