Wang Global Names Valter Aoki General Manager of Brazil Subsidiary

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1999--Wang Global (NASDAQ:WANG), an international networked technology services and solutions provider, today announced that Valter Kazuo Aoki has been promoted to the position of general manager of its Brazilian subsidiary, Wang Global Ltda. Mr. Aoki will have overall responsibility for the development, sales, delivery and support of Wang Global's networked technology services and solutions in Brazil. Wang Global Ltda. employs approximately 310 people in Brazil. Its headquarters is in Sao Paulo.
Mr. Aoki had served as acting general manager since March 1998 when the subsidiary, formerly Olivetti do Brasil S/A, was acquired by Wang Global as part of its purchase of Olsy, the worldwide services and solutions subsidiary of Ing. C. Olivetti of Ivrea, Italy. Mr. Aoki was the director of software development, communications and marketing for Olivetti do Brasil from 1993 to 1998.
Since his appointment as acting general manager for Wang Global Ltda., Mr. Aoki has restructured the organization and added networking services to its customer offer. In September 1998, Wang Global Ltda. received Citibank's Achievement Award for developing and delivering under Mr. Aoki's direction three Windows NT-based applications.
Mr. Aoki's career in information technology has spanned more than 27 years. He has extensive experience in IT project management for several major banking institutions throughout Latin America and in the Netherlands, Italy, and Israel. Projects he has led include network management, client/server architecture system implementation, applications development, and communications.
Between 1985 and 1992 he managed systems support and development for the Netherlands-based 750-branch ABN Amro Bank and the 1000-branch Rabobank. From 1981 to 1985 he performed system support, application design and software development at the 400-branch Bank Leumi Israel, focusing on its SNA communication environment and on branch support functions.
A graduate of the Catholic University of Sao Paulo with a degree in physics, Mr. Aoki began his career in programming and sales support with Olivetti do Brasil in 1971. He also taught computing in a local high school for two years and spent three years in consulting and providing software support for banks in Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela and Chile.
