Overland Joins Quantum's ``Prove It'' Initiative for Disaster Recovery Planning
Business Wire, Feb 2, 1999
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 1999--Overland Data Inc. (Nasdaq/NMS: OVRL), a technology leader in data storage and backup products, Tuesday announced that it has joined Quantum Corp.'s "Prove It" Disaster Recovery Readiness Initiative in a campaign to provide corporate executives and IT professionals with comprehensive data protection and disaster recovery built around Quantum's DLTtape technology.
"The Prove It Disaster Recovery Readiness Initiative is the first multi-vendor program focused on helping IT managers develop and implement plans to assure business continuity in the face of significant disaster," said Scott McClendon, President and CEO of Overland.
"Quantum is leading the industry through this initiative, as they have led the industry in producing highly-reliable backup technology. Overland is excited to participate in this ground breaking program."
According to Steve Richardson, Vice President of Marketing at Overland, companies taking advantage of Quantum's Prove It resources to develop disaster recovery plans need to be aware of two critical issues in designing a data backup strategy: creating a backup solution to ensure that computer data is captured and stored in a removable media; and ensuring that you can access this information quickly 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
He noted that storing the data in a removable media is the only way to protect against human error, viruses and software bugs.
"DLTtape has a field-proven record of high reliability in business critical computing environments throughout the enterprise," said Richardson. "Combining Quantum's DLTtape technology with an automated tape library and storage management software from a top vendor can virtually eliminate the risk of catastrophic data loss and is the cornerstone of a top-notch corporate disaster plan."
According to Richardson, the Prove It Initiative offers corporate IT staffs a truly valuable set of on-line resources at the web site, providing tools for companies to do an in-depth analysis of their own disaster planning efforts and links to third-party solutions partners, including hardware providers such as Overland, software vendors and service companies, that can assist them in defining and implementing data backup and disaster planning procedures.
