Charles R. McCarthy, Jr. Elected to Avitar, Inc. Board of Directors

CANTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 1999--Avitar, Inc. (NASD OTC Bulletin Board:AVIT) today announced that Charles R. McCarthy, Jr. has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Company.

Mr. McCarthy is a partner with the Washington, D.C. law firm of O'Connor & Hannan, L.L.P. and currently serves on a number of boards of directors and as counsel to several publicly and privately held corporations and previously was General Counsel to the National Association of Corporate Directors. Previously, he served as a trial attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission, was Blue Sky Securities Commissioner for the District of Columbia and was a law professor teaching securities law topics. He is a frequent writer and lecturer. Having written extensively on corporate officer and director fiduciary duties, Mr. McCarthy developed a corporate standard for ethical conduct of business with the U.S. government which is recognized as one of the authoritative works in the field.
