New Nokia InSite Base Station — Breaking the Barriers for Mobile Communications in the Office

HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--Nokia today introduces the new Nokia InSite Base Station at the Cannes GSM World Congress.

As part of the Nokia Total Mobility Office solutions, this indoor base station brings the cost of implementing a wireless office down to a fraction of existing solutions.

With an optimal design for picocellular applications, this base station is small and discreet enough to be installed anywhere. The Nokia InSite Base Station is compact and lightweight, approximately A4 in size and weighing only 2.5 kilograms, making it the smallest GSM base station in the world. It also features an integrated antenna and transmission system including an inbuild HDSL modem.

The Nokia InSite Base Station can be deployed in about one-tenth the time of conventional base stations at one tenth of the cost, compared to traditional solutions.

Transmission elements integrated into the Nokia InSite Base Station are compatible with various fixed line or cellular solutions, as well as a corporate local area network via the Nokia GSM Intranet Office solution. In addition to providing current GSM voice services, this professional coverage solution supports both High Speed Circuit Switched Data (HSCSD) and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) technologies. The Nokia InSite Base Station will be available for all GSM frequencies (900/1800/1900).

The Nokia Total Mobility Office solution brings flexibility, mobility and freedom to the office, enabling GSM to become the preferred phone in the workplace. This will be made possible with the launch of new products including Nokia Location Dependent Services (LDS) and the Nokia Service Positioning System, the Nokia Service Gateway and the new Nokia InSite Base Station.
