JVC Introduces GV-DT3 Multimedia Printer With Built-In Image Processing Features

Business Wire, Feb 23, 1999

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--PMA February 18-21, 1999--JVC, the innovative consumer electronics company making digital waves in the multimedia field, has introduced the revolutionary GV-DT3 Multimedia Printer. Featuring the latest in printing technology to offer SXGA equivalent high-resolution output (306 dpi), this digital printer couples incredible levels of connectivity and convenient built-in image processing features.

Multimedia connectivity includes DV (i.Link, IEEE 1394 compliant) input, IrTran-P wireless transfer, S-Video/Video for input from virtually any video source, and Serial port connection for printing from a PC. The GV-DT3 also has a built-in memory that stores up to 8 images, and functions that make it easy to capture and print the exact image you want.

High Quality Images

A newly developed printing head enables the GV-DT3 to output images with 306dpi resolution - that's the equivalent of 1.4 million pixel SXGA resolution - for incredibly crisp and clear prints. In addition, by employing the dye-sublimation printing method, it's capable of full color (16.77 million colors) reproduction, so colors are breathtakingly natural and gradations are smooth. These high quality prints can be used in much the same way as one might share photographs, but with the added versatility of digital processing.

Multimedia Connectivity

With a multitude of multimedia interfaces, the GV-DT3 can be easily integrated into virtually any system. For instance, the industry-standard i.Link interface (IEEE 1394 compliant) will allow the GV-DT3 to be connected to any compatible digital video camera, like JVC's GR-DVL9500, GR-DVM70 or GR-DVM50, for direct digital-to-digital printing of still images.

The bidirectional Serial Port connection links to a PC and allows transfer of pictures (JPEG) captured in memory using the supplied PictureNavigator software, as well as printing of retouched JPEG images from the PC. The IrDA interface (IrTran-P protocol compliant) on the front of the unit allows images to be beamed to the printer from compatible image sources like JVC's GR-DVM70 Digital DualCam for cordless, digital-to-digital printing.

To ensure compatibility with the widest possible range of input sources, analog S-Video/Video terminals are also equipped, along with Video output to allow captured images as well as printing status and menu selections to be monitored on a TV set.

Versatile Printing Features

The GV-DT3 has a built-in memory to capture and store images from video input sources. To help the user catch the exact image he wants, the GV-DT3 offers the ExactFrame function which collects 8 frames in rapid succession - 4 frames prior and 4 frames after - when the Memory button is pressed. That means that even if your timing is off a bit, it's always possible to select the exact frame you need afterwards.

The Picture Processor function is a built-in image processor. Its settings include Auto Adjust, which optimises the image for printing and Clear Black to sharpen black areas of the image, as well as a number of manual adjustments. The Picture Memory function lets the user store up to 8 images in the internal memory, so anybody can keep their favorite shots in memory, ready to print at a moment's notice. Since images remain in memory even if power is turned off, there's no worry over losing a stored photo.

Attractive Printing Effects

The GV-DT3 offers a range of creative print effects, including 7 ready-made titles, 7 frames, calendar template, multi-screen and multi-frame printout (2, 4 or 16 images in 1 print). Images can be cropped, rotated or mirrored for free and precise image composition.

Bundled High-Value Software

Since the GV-DT3's image capture function makes it an image source in its own right, this printer is provided with a number of software titles that allow image transfer and processing on a PC. First there's Picture Navigator for still image transfer from GV-DT3 to a personal computer (Windows(R) 95/ 98 or Macintosh(R)) via Serial Port. The other applications are: Presto! Mr. Photo for image cataloging, viewing and automatic Web page creation (HTML output); Presto! PhotoAlbum for decorating photos with various templates such as calendars and greeting cards; and Presto! ImageFolio with pro-style retouching with multi-layer, mask support, custom layouts, and advanced special effects.

The GV-DT3 will be available in April at a nationally advertised price of $599.95.
