IBM's ThinkPad family of notebook PCs and Systems Storage Division products have swept the fifth annual Mobility Awards at the Mobile Insights 99 Conference, held in Palm Springs, California.
The awards, which were announced at a ceremony on February 23, recognize the highest achievements in mobile computing and data communications during the past year. Forty top analysts and computer and business journalists comprised the judging committee that voted for this year's best products.
Winning four times as many awards as its nearest competitor, the IBM Mobile Computing division won top honors in the following categories:
-- Thin and Light (2-spindle) -- ThinkPad 600
-- Ultraportable (1-spindle) -- ThinkPad 560
-- Entry Level Notebook (Low price) -- ThinkPad i Series 1411
-- Consumer/Small Business Portable -- ThinkPad i Series 1451
-- Management Team of the Year -- IBM Mobile Computing/ThinkPad
Accolades also went to IBM's Storage Division, whose products seized first place and received honorable mention in the Mobile Storage, Notebook Storage and Technology Achievement categories:

IBM's industry-leading Service and Support also received an honorable mention at the conference.

InfoWorld Names ThinkPad 600 "Product of the Year"
In related news, the editors of InfoWorld magazine recently awarded the ThinkPad 600 "1998 Product of the Year, Client/server category." InfoWorld cited the ThinkPad 600 as the notebook that comes closest to its ideal for balancing power and functionality with portability and comfort.
Published in the February 15 issue, the award was presented by InfoWorld's Test Center, which combined input from InfoWorld editors and other industry experts to determine which enterprise technologies and solutions were the year's finest.
