Business Wire, Jan 11, 1999
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 1999--
Netcool(R)/NT Service Monitors Support Centralized Management, Ensure
Availability of Distributed NT-Based Resources and Applications
Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of service-level management software, today announced the availability of Netcool(R)/NT Service Monitors, a suite of modular data collectors for monitoring distributed Microsoft Windows NT-based resources and applications.
The new suite represents the newest of more than 75 management environments and network devices for which Netcool applications provide comprehensive, cost-effective, off-the-shelf support.
Out of the box, Netcool/NTSMs capture realtime performance, availability, status, log, and security data about NT-based applications and resources. Netcool/NT Service Monitors are designed to run with other Netcool applications, allowing operators in a central Network Operations Center (NOC) to:
- Monitor CPU, memory and disk usage of distributed NT systems
- Interrogate system logs for application status and security
information
- Track changes to specific files
Netcool is a suite of client-server applications based on the ObjectServer, an in-memory database that normalizes and synchronizes events into a common format. This allows operators to custom-design service views on the fly. Using Boolean filters, views are created based on which events affect the availability of user-oriented services.
Netcool Probes and Monitors (including NTSMs) support a unique data enrichment capability, giving service providers the ability to add extra business information directly into an event message appearing on the operator's screen. For example, an operator can easily insert a descripter noting that an application is running on a certain server - as well as its location, the user group affected, which second line group is responsible, its service type and so on.
As with the rest of the Netcool family, the Netcool/NT Service Monitor suite is easy to use, highly scalable, and deploys rapidly. Its modular architecture is designed to allows organizations to grow and modify the solution incrementally as the network grows and changes.
Netcool/NT Service Monitors are available now from Micromuse.
