Princeton Softech Delivers Powerful Tool for Cross-Platform Data Movement; Move for Servers Supports Bi-directional Movement of DB2, Oracle Data

Business Wire, Jan 11, 1999

PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 1999--Princeton Softech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Computer Horizons Corp. (Nasdaq: CHRZ), today announces that Move for Servers, a data extract, transformation and migration tool, now supports DB2 for OS/390 databases. Move for Servers enables users to create and exchange relationally intact data subsets between Oracle, DB2 Universal Database and DB2 for OS/390 databases, in preparation for cross-platform migration, application testing, staging data for production, archiving production data, or creating realistic, time-shifted data for Year 2000 testing.

According to Jukka Koykka, Database Specialist at Ilmarinen, one of the leading pension insurance companies in Finland: "We had written our own programs to create tables and bi-directionally move test data between MVS DB2 and Windows NT Oracle. However, our in-house programs were complex to configure and upgrade to new Oracle/DB2 versions and extracting data from DB2 to Oracle could only be performed by the DBA. Now, we get the same functionality, and more, from Move for Servers. The developers can even move data themselves. Move for Servers is much easier to use and far more reliable than our in-house programs."

"In today's enterprise computing organization, heterogeneous hardware and software platforms abound," explains Joe Allegra, president, Princeton Softech. "Princeton Softech's Move for Servers enables data movement between various relational databases in disparate operating environments, which makes it possible for our clients to easily integrate legacy systems into a client/server environment. To do this effectively, companies need test data for cross-platform application testing. Move for Servers enables thorough application testing, using the same test cases across environments, thereby reducing the risk of application failure or inaccurate results."

"We are much more confident in the test data that we generate with Move for Servers," affirms Koykka. "It would have been extremely difficult to develop such a comprehensive program in-house. We are very pleased to have this powerful and stable tool to use for all our test data creation."

Move for Servers contains numerous functions that make it easy to manage data movement operations, including Scheduling, High Performance Bulk Loading and Relational Deletes. In addition, Move for Servers supports an extensive array of aging features that are specific to the needs of a Year 2000 project, including Object-Level Semantic Aging, Date Interpretation, Semantic SafeGuard, Target Dating, Global Date Advancement, Window Watching, Date Absorption and Date Skipping. The pricing is server-based, starting at $35,000. Subsequent releases of Move for Servers will support Sybase, SQL Server, Informix and data movement interoperability between these heterogeneous DBMSs.
