Antex Electronics Sets Industry Standards With New Digital Audio Card; PCI-Based Multi-Track Digital Audio Solution Delivers 96 dB Dynamic Range

Business Wire, Jan 13, 1999

GARDENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 1999--Antex Electronics Corp., a leading manufacturer of high-end digital audio sound cards for studio-quality PC-based recording and playback, Wednesday announced the LX-44 Digital Audio Adapter, a PCI-based digital audio solution that brings new levels of performance to the professional audio, video and broadcast markets.

Designed for system integrators and developers of digital audio workstations for broadcast automation, audio recording and archiving, messaging systems and professional entertainment systems, the LX-44 builds on the success of Antex's widely popular SX Series -- known in the industry for reliability in producing studio-quality sound with simultaneous, multi-track record and playback.

A DSP-based, half-sized PCI card, the LX-44 uses 20-bit A/D converters to achieve a dynamic range of up to 96 dB. It provides a host of versatile features, including four analog inputs, four output channels plus the ability to simultaneously mix (under Windows 98/NT) four virtual devices to any output.

The use of 20-bit A/D and D/A converters yields significantly enhanced audio quality and signal resolution that exceed the typical 16 or 18-bit sound cards available today.

"We know from ongoing dialogue with our customers the intense demands that are placed on their PC audio systems," said Jim Antrim, president of Antex.

"Because these companies increasingly rely on the computer to bring entertainment, multimedia and the like to the market, it was absolutely essential to deliver a high-performance, multi-channel audio solution capable of withstanding the rigors of these production environments," Antrim added.

The industry has already embraced the benefits offered by the LX-44. The card is currently being used by Plant Equipment, a Temecula, Calif.-based firm specializing in 911 emergency recording and archiving systems.

Applications

The LX-44 is ideally suited for multi-track, ultra-high fidelity, digital audio sampling and playback.

In addition, users can truly maximize their audio output by configuring multiple cards in the same system to achieve 8, 12 or 16 track simultaneous recording or playback.

Other key features include: -0-

-- Audio outputs configurable in balanced or unbalanced mode
-- All I/O connections via well-placed 25-pin D connector
-- Intel & Alpha compatible 8 and 16-bit PCM linear compression

Pricing, Availability & Warranty

The LX-44 carries an MSRP of $850. It is currently shipping direct to OEM customers and through Antex's international network of resellers and distributors. The card ships with complete software drivers for Windows 98/NT. A fully documented, advanced software developers kit (SDK) is available at no charge from the Antex Web site, at www.antex.com.

In addition, the LX-44 is backed by a one-year warranty. Professional-grade XLR connectors are available optionally as either a 12-inch cable set or through a passive, rack-mounted break-out box.
