Horace Small Apparel Company To Close its Nashville, Tennessee Manufacturing Operations

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 1999--Horace Small Apparel Company (Nasdaq: HSACY), faced with business requirements that continue to be impacted by tight labor markets and competitive pressures, will close its manufacturing operations located in Nashville, Tennessee beginning on March 16, 1999. Approximately 150 employees in Nashville are affected by the action. The closing will not include the Company's distribution centers or corporate offices also located in Nashville.

Robert W. Gates, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer of Horace Small, said "It is with deep regret and concern that we must make the tough decision to close the Nashville plant. In addition to the legally-required 60-day notice, all of the affected team members will receive an offer of a severance package and continued benefit coverage based on their length of service. Also, we will provide reemployment assistance including career counseling, financial planning, and training on interviewing and resume writing."

The Company has continuing manufacturing operations in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee; Bassfield, Mississippi; and Brownsville, Texas and distribution centers in Nashville, Mt. Pleasant, and Memphis, Tennessee as well as New York, New York; Ft. Worth, Texas; and Montreal, Canada. The Nashville pant production capacity will be moved to the Brownsville, Texas facility.
