Chili!Soft Debuts Active Server Pages on IBM RS/6000 Servers; Chili!ASP for AIX To Be Demonstrated at Annual RS/6000 User Conference

Business Wire, Jan 18, 1999

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 1999--Chili!Soft(tm), the pioneer of multi-platform Active Server Pages (ASP), today announced it will debut the beta version of Chili!ASP(tm) for AIX here at the annual RS/6000 User's Conference `99 (Booth #603).

Chili!ASP for AIX will enable organizations to use the popular ASP development framework for rapid creation of Web applications to run on IBM(R) RS/6000 Enterprise Servers(tm) (NYSE:IBM). Chili!ASP for AIX extends ASP functionality on the UNIX platform.

Chili!ASP for AIX gives organizations the benefits of secure, interactive Web applications that are cost-effective to develop, quick to deploy, and rich in functionality. ASP is now an effective Web application development framework for IS managers who support a multi-platform environment. It allows developers to build ASP-enabled Web sites and applications on either Microsoft(R) Windows NT(tm) or IBM AIX(tm) and deploy them on IBM RS/6000 Enterprise Servers. With ASP, IT departments can now maximize their development resources on additional platforms and protect their technology investment.

"ASP provides RS/6000 users with a powerful Web application standard that is ideal for all types of enterprise application development," said Charles Crystle, chief technology officer, Chili!Soft. "There's a reason why ASP is so popular: it's fast, easy to use, and it gets the job done more effectively than any other approach to building Web applications. ASP is hands down the best framework for building Web apps for any operating system."

Chili!ASP for AIX also facilitates smooth server consolidation by enabling existing ASP applications developed with Windows NT tools to run, often without modification, in the AIX operating environment. Organizations can benefit from cost savings and improved performance, particularly when applications draw heavily on host data.

"Since announcing our agreement with Chili!Soft to bring ASP to the IBM RS/6000 platform, we have received significant interest from customers eager to standardize on the popular ASP environment," said Tim Dougherty, program director of Web Solutions, IBM RS/6000. "Chili!ASP for AIX will enable our customers to easily migrate existing ASP applications to the AIX environment when consolidating Web servers to take advantage of the scalability and reliability of the RS/6000 platform. Combining AIX and ASP is a formula for success as enterprise needs grow in size and complexity."

In addition, RS/6000 customers using Chili!ASP are a step closer to benefiting from many of more than 600 ASP-enabled commercial solutions, ranging from e-commerce to mainframe legacy database access. With Chili!ASP, many of these applications will run their ASP code natively on AIX with minimal modifications.

Product Availability

Chili!ASP for AIX will be available in Q1 1999 for Apache, Lotus(R) and Netscape(R) Web servers. Pricing will be announced at time of commercial launch.
