VERITAS and Oracle Announce Cooperative Development Agreement to Enhance Storage Management for Oracle's Database

Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL), the world's leading supplier of software for information management, and VERITAS(R) Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading provider of end-to-end storage management solutions, today announced they have signed a cooperative development agreement to create an Application Programming Interface (API) that will closely integrate VERITAS' Database Edition for Oracle with the Oracle database. Under the agreement, both companies will collaborate to develop the interface and modify both the VERITAS Database Edition for Oracle and a future release of the Oracle database to conform to the API. This close integration is expected to help customers better manage the explosive growth of their business data, deliver increased data availability and ease of management, as well as lower the total cost of ownership through more efficient use of storage resources.

Collaboration to Result in New Capabilities

Under the agreement, the companies will collaborate to develop a unique disk storage management API that will be designed to deliver significantly increased database performance. The core components of the VERITAS Database Edition for Oracle, VERITAS Volume Manager(TM) and VERITAS File System(TM), as well as Oracle's database, will be enhanced to support this API. The integration is expected to enable Oracle's database to optimize and directly control storage management functions instead of relying on the operating system to perform these tasks. These new capabilities are expected to provide higher performance and make it easier for database administrators to manage the growing amount of data in their enterprise.
