American International Acquires Transitional Technology

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 1999--American International (Ai), the largest third-party supplier of tape storage products to the IBM AS/400 market, Monday announced that it has acquired Anaheim-based storage provider Transitional Technology Inc. (TTi).
Transitional Technologies offers one of the broadest lines of storage solutions, including tape systems, drives, libraries and loaders. The company's products have consistently been rated No. 1 for the highest MTBF and lowest failure rate by Reliability Ratings magazine.

Because of its record of reliability, TTi offers its customers an unsurpassed service program (S.W.A.P. -- Service with Absolute Priority). Prior to its acquisition, TTi was owned by Oslo, Norway-based TTI Holdings Inc.
In making the announcement, Jim Delshad, president and CEO of American International and TTi, said that with the new and experienced management team from American International, strong financial backing in place and renowned engineering expertise, that he expects current and prospective TTi customers to have a stronger company to provide support, along with the best selection of innovative storage solutions on the market today.
During a short period of time, there was some confusion as to the ownership and destiny of TTi, and Delshad emphasized that TTi executives are committed to strengthening its customer relationships and establishing new standards for TTi and its impressive customer base.
In the near future, TTi will be announcing exciting new products and programs, and will be extending warranties to existing TTi customers to reward them for their patience during the past few months.
While the synergy of the two companies is strong, Delshad noted that both entities will continue to do what each does best, and that the existing OEM and reseller channels for American International and end-user customers of TTi will receive better product selection, service, technical and sales support.

American International, originally based in Marina Del Rey, Calif., has a 20-year history in the storage business, with OEM customers such as Memorex Telex, Decision Data, EMC, Decision Systems International and IBM.
The company's unique product line, known for unique features, performance and reliability, includes the award-winning Golden Gate series of storage solutions, which combine the latest tape drive technologies with intelligent data handling to produce multiplatform products that provide for simultaneous sharing with another host computer or server using Novell, RS6000, Windows NT, UNIX or AS/400 operating systems.
The company's Autobahn software targets AS/400 sites requiring a means to increase backup speed and significantly improve backup reliability. American International sells its products to major OEMs and resellers.
