Compaq Offers Windows CE ROM Upgrade for C-Series Family of Handheld PCs

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1999--Continuing to deliver the latest handheld computing software to its customers, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) announced today a Windows CE handheld PC (H/PC) ROM upgrade for the Compaq C-Series family of handheld computers -- the 810, 2010c and 2015c. C-Series customers can now upgrade from Microsoft Windows CE 2.0(tm) to the Windows CE H/PC professional edition operating system for $109.

Today's mobile professionals rely on handheld PCs to access email, create presentations, plan company budgets and organize personal and corporate information, both at work and on the road. Compaq's C-Series provides the easiest way to organize and exchange information with Windows-based desktop and notebook PCs.

With the Microsoft Windows CE H/PC professional edition ROM upgrade, Compaq's C-Series customers can incorporate the latest technology into one of their most important business tools to take advantage of expanded email functionality, robust enhancements to Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the inclusion of the Pocket Access database application.

Available in late January, Compaq C-Series customers can order the Windows CE H/PC professional edition upgrade by calling Compaq DirectPlus at 1-800-888-9909 or by visiting Compaq's website at http://www.directplus.compaq.com/ProductLines.asp. In addition, in late January Compaq will begin selling new versions of the Compaq C-Series 2010c and 2015c handheld PCs with Windows CE H/PC personal edition pre-installed.
