Perfumania, Inc. Reports December Sales; Comparable Store Sales Up 2 Percent

MIAMI, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 1999--Perfumania, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRFM) announced today retail and wholesale sales for the month of December 1998.
Total retail sales for December 1998 grew 7 percent to $31,555,108, compared with total retail sales of $29,464,108 reported for December 1997. Comparable store sales increased 2 percent for the month of December 1998 over December 1997.
The Company reported wholesale sales for the month of December 1998 were $1,217,233, a 30 percent decrease over sales of $1,741,974 in December 1997.
Perfumania, Inc. is a leading specialty retailer and wholesale distributor of a wide range of brand name and designer fragrances with approximately $180 million in annual sales. The Company operates a chain of more than 290 retail stores specializing in the sale of fragrances at discounted prices up to 70 percent below the manufacturer's suggested retail prices. The Company's wholesale division, one of the largest in the United States, distributes fragrances and related products to national and regional chains and other wholesale distributors throughout North America and overseas.
