ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1999--

Delta Air Lines today announced the promotion of Edward H. West, age 32, to senior vice president - strategy and business development. West, currently vice president - financial planning and analysis, will report to Leo F. Mullin, Delta's president and CEO.

"During the past two years, Delta has made good progress as we have worked to strengthen the important areas of airline operations and customer service. Our current strong industry position as a result of those efforts means that, even as business and economic conditions continue to change, we will have many strategic options open to us as we continue to grow and expand our company," Mullin said. "To create the focus we need to make the best strategic decisions, we have named Ed to this new position."

West will head a group dedicated to working with the Executive Council to lead the corporate planning process. This group will bring together analytical capabilities to best coordinate the strategic and business development agenda of the company. He will be responsible for establishing priorities among the strategic and business options open to Delta.

West joined Delta in 1994 after a seven-year career in corporate banking in Atlanta. His first assignment was as assistant to the senior vice president - finance. West was named controller in November 1996 and to his current position in June 1997. He served as acting chief financial officer from December 1997 until Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Warren Jenson joined Delta in April 1998. West graduated from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta.
