SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1999--
Lotus Notes Users Can Set Up and Attend MeetingPlace
Conference Calls Directly From the Notes Desktop
Latitude Communications (Nasdaq:LATD), a leading provider of integrated voice and data conferencing solutions, today announced the integration of its MeetingPlace(R) system with Lotus(R) Notes(R) and Lotus Domino(R) Server. With MeetingPlace for Notes, users across an enterprise can now set up and attend MeetingPlace voice and data conference calls from Lotus Notes clients.
"Our integration with Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Server builds on our strategy of giving users instant access to the power of MeetingPlace collaboration," said Steve Pao, vice president of Product Management for Latitude. "The tight integration between MeetingPlace and Lotus Notes allows users to manage virtual conferences in the same familiar way that they manage face-to-face meetings. The advantage for companies is the ability to provide conferencing as a standard part of the corporate voice and data network infrastructure."
MeetingPlace is an enterprise solution for voice and data conferencing that is deployed as a standard part of a corporation's communications infrastructure. The integration of MeetingPlace with a company's other deployed office applications, offers the following benefits. First, users access conference functionality through familiar desktop applications such as the corporate intranet and groupware products such as Lotus Notes. Second, the system provides integrated voice and data conferencing for the ability to share and edit documents over the Internet during the voice conference. Third, users can capture and retrieve the content of meetings in the form of documents and recordings. The system automatically posts these documents and recordings to a meeting web site for retrieval.
"Voice and data conferencing initiatives are gaining momentum," said Matthew Cain, vice president of Workgroup Computing Strategies for META Group. "Products like MeetingPlace for Notes will accelerate this by leveraging the groupware interface to make conferencing accessible to dispersed workgroups from their desktops. "
"Many of our customers are taking advantage of Latitude's MeetingPlace technology today," said Tim Browne, general manager, Notes Marketing at Lotus. "MeetingPlace's Lotus Notes and Domino integration allows them to quickly create or attend a conference call from within the applications they use most frequently. So scheduling or joining a call is just as easy as making a calendar entry!"
Simple Conference Setup and Attendance
MeetingPlace for Notes makes it simple to manage conference setup and attendance by simply checking the "MeetingPlace meeting" box on the Notes calendar entry form. When the meeting request is sent, the conference is scheduled on MeetingPlace. A single invitation containing MeetingPlace information and other meeting materials -- such as presentations, proposals, or other group projects -- is automatically sent to all meeting participants. In addition to meeting information, invitations contain attendance buttons that allow participants to join the meeting by clicking on the "join voice" and "join data" buttons in their Notes calendar.
Pricing
MeetingPlace for Notes is a $19,995 option on the MeetingPlace system. A typical MeetingPlace system starts at $100,000.
