Linuxlab, Inc. Announces First Linux Apache Dedicated Personal Web Server Computer with Tested Built-in NIC for Only $299
Business Wire, July 20, 1999
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 1999--
Linuxlab, Incorporated (www.linuxlab.com) announces it's first low cost Web server, the Linuxlab Web Server WS300, for a price of $299.
The WS300 is geared toward small- and medium-sized Web sites and businesses which desire an in-house server.
The server comes with a tested built-in Network Internet Card (NIC) and is ready to go online using an ethernet-based network connection, such as DSL or a Cable Modem, for a 24 hour direct connection to the Internet or a local Intranet. As the WS300 is equipped with a 4.3 GB hard drive, there is plenty of space for Web content.
A monitor and keyboard are optional, so that if it is connected to the Internet or an Intranet, remote control from another computer is recommended.
"E-commerce practitioners can now have an in-house Web server, making it much easier to expand, enhance or modify at their convenience," said Charles Liu, president and founder of Linuxlab Incorporated. "As every company will become an Internet company in the future, to have an in-house Web server will be the trend."
Linuxlab is able to offer such a low priced Web server because it completely avoids using Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) software and takes advantage of low cost PC components. Linuxlab encourages customers to use the system as designed to be a stable Web server. Changing components voids the system warranty. To assist those customers with a less technical background, the company provides a fee based home page development service, as well as DSL installations through third party vendors.
The server can be optionally set up to be DSL ready by Linuxlab prior to shipment. Linuxlab can configure the server using a static IP address that the customer provides for a configuration fee of $75.
