Summit Medical Center's Registered Nurses Ratify 2-Year Contract

OAKLAND, Calif.--(BW HealthWire)--July 23, 1999--

The California Nurses Association (CNA) voted on Wednesday to ratify a new two-year contract with Summit Medical Center, retroactive to July 1, 1999. CNA represents 760 registered nurses at Summit.

"We're pleased that Summit's registered nurses have ratified this contract and we look forward to working with CNA to meet the patient care needs of our community," said Irwin Hansen, President and CEO of Summit Medical Center. "This new contract represents Summit's continuing dedication to constructive and productive bargaining with all of our unions."

Terms of the new agreement include: -0-

--   A 4% wage increase each year of the contract;

--   Establishment of a "float pool" of nurses who will be available
     daily to fill slots in various departments;

--   Clarification of some nursing roles at Summit.

The contract also contains a clause allowing Summit's registered nurses to renegotiate the deal after one year, if Summit's merger with Alta Bates occurs, as planned.
