A Single Source for Managing Software Change from Mainframe
to the Web; Reduces Costs, Improves Quality and Accelerates
Time to Market
SERENA Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRNA), an industry-leading supplier of enterprise software change management solutions, today announced the availability of eChange Man(TM), a solution that protects software assets and automates the software life cycle across the Web, Windows, Windows NT, UNIX, and MPE/iX platforms to streamline development, enhance quality assurance and establish process consistency. This is the first product available as a result of SERENA's recent acquisition of Diamond Optimum Systems. The combination of eChange Man and SERENA's Change Man(R) solution for the OS/390 platform provides organizations with a single consistent approach for software change management (SCM) across all major platforms from mainframe to the Web.
"With the acceleration of e-business initiatives, organizations require a solution that can manage change and development across the enterprise. eChange Man is designed to run across the Internet and manage multi-platform development efforts including Windows and the Web, the fastest growing application areas," said Perry Harris, Director of Management Strategies with the Yankee Group. "eChange Man improves software quality and reliability while reducing development cycles, which is critical in keeping pace with `Internet' time."
"eChange Man offers critical applications across our organization the benefits and protection of consistent software change management," said Kathleen Hassell, Change Management Manager, BB&T Corporation. "We need our SCM solution to make our infrastructure fluid and to generate tangible competitive business advantages. We rely on change management technology to provide key life cycle flexibility, automate code migration though test levels, and to deliver quality software by employing an integrated production management process. eChange Man employs SERENA's proven SCM methodology. Its logical repository and network-friendly architecture should provide a nice framework to build on."
"eChange Man provides robust SCM capabilities to make software development a predictable science," said Tony Stayner, Vice President of Desktop Business and Services for SERENA. "Furthermore, the availability of eChange Man accelerates our delivery of a fully integrated enterprise-wide SCM solution and realization of SERENA's FULL.CYCLE(TM) Enterprise vision."
eChange Man offers complete SCM functionality and competitive advantages that include the following: -0-
-- Flexible, package centered, process oriented SCM across all major
platforms. From a single vendor, a single consistent SCM approach
from mainframe to Web, and a single source for support.
-- Ease of implementation. A single logical repository stores all
software change related information and allows source components
to remain in their existing directories, unlike many other
products which require all source components to be moved to a
physical database, which also amplifies disaster recovery
concerns. Installation Wizards further simplify the
implementation process.
-- Ease of integration. eChange Man works with leading integrated
development environments, requirements analysis, project
management and other applications as a result of its compliance
with Microsoft Corporation's Source Code standard, offering
standard API's, and partnerships with Hewlett Packard, IBM, Sun
Microsystems, Microsoft Corporation, Powersoft/Sybase, and Oracle
Corporation. eChange Man also leverages existing popular version
control systems.
-- Seamless interoperability between platforms. By utilizing a
TCP/IP based architecture, eChange Man offers developers a
transparent, high performance way to use their platform of choice
to develop applications running on any of the supported platforms
(Windows, Windows NT, Unix, Web, and MPE/iX). The product's
architecture minimizes impact on network performance.
-- Support for distributed development. eChange Man's TCP/IP based
architecture and fully functional Java-based Web client
particularly facilitates development by groups in geographically
disparate locations.
-- Impact analysis. eChange Man reviews your code, automatically
recognizing interrelationships among elements to avoid making
changes without fully understanding their impact.
-- Enterprise solution. SERENA plans to integrate eChange Man with
Change Man Mainframe through SERENA's SERNET(TM) architecture to
provide a single point of control for all platforms.
