SemiCycle Foundation and Hi-Tech Manufacturing Make Donation to Thornton After School Tutoring Program
Business Wire, June 1, 1999
THORNTON, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1999--
The SemiCycle Foundation, an Austin, Texas-based not-for-profit organization established to collect and recycle plastic packaging materials used in technology manufacturing, and Hi-Tech Manufacturing, today made a donation of $4,000 to Thornton Elementary School's After School Tutoring Program, a new program intended to increase student language arts and math proficiency over a three-year period.
The funds will help support the Program's efforts to increase reading, writing and math scores by 5 percent per year for 85 percent of Thornton Elementary's students, many of whom are considered "at risk" and performing below grade level. The After School Tutoring Program receives no taxpayer support.
Hi-Tech Manufacturing, based here, a leading computer and telecommunications contract manufacturer, represented Denver-area technology manufacturers whose recycling programs support this donation and donations made throughout the United States.
The check presentation took place at Thornton Elementary School. The donation was made by Tim Jarvis, executive director of The SemiCycle Foundation, and Roland Rickerd, vice president of operations, Brian Williamson, maintenance manager, and Rob Patton, maintenance technician, all of Hi-Tech Manufacturing. Gladys Fernandez, community programs director, and Mike Koontz, principal of Thornton Elementary School, accepted the check.
"It is rewarding enough to know that our efforts are reducing the amount of solid waste turned loose on the environment," said Jarvis, "but to recycle Foundation funds to nurture and enhance the lives of at risk children makes this an extremely gratifying undertaking for all involved."
