Business Wire, June 10, 1999
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1999--
Inktomi Corp. (Nasdaq:INKT), developer of scalable Internet infrastructure software, today announced that MobilCom AG, one of Germany's leading telecommunications companies, has selected Inktomi to provide end-to-end infrastructure solutions for its rapidly growing Internet business.
MobilCom will integrate the Inktomi Search Engine, Shopping Engine and Traffic Server(TM) network cache platform into its online services beginning this summer.
"As one of Germany's leading telecom and Internet service providers, our business requires heavy-duty infrastructure to deliver cutting edge portal services and robust network performance," said Gerhard Schmid, CEO of MobilCom AG. "Inktomi is the only company in Europe today that provides this solution. Now our customers will not only benefit from more relevant searches and faster download times, but will also have the ability to comparison shop online -- a first for Germany."
"MobilCom is taking a leadership role in building the European Internet, and Inktomi's infrastructure software will support their rapid growth and innovation," said David Peterschmidt, chief executive officer of Inktomi. "Inktomi has made a major commitment to the European Internet market, and we look forward to working with MobilCom to realize their Internet strategy."
MobilCom AG, known in Germany for its innovative marketing strategies, sees the Internet as the future for telephone companies. Following the acquisition of Krefeld-based Internet company Topnet AG and the German Internet search engine DINO-Online, MobilCom's cooperation with Inktomi marks a further milestone for MobilCom in the realization of its Internet strategy: -0-
