Visual Tool to Support JavaServer Pages and JavaBeans;
Elemental Software, JSP Specification Team Member, Developing
Future Cross-Platform, Cross-Server JSP Technologies
Elemental Software today announced the availability of Drumbeat 2000 JavaServer Pages(TM) Edition for IBM WebSphere server. Drumbeat 2000 (JSP) brings integrated support for JSP and JavaBeans to Drumbeat's WYSIWYG development environment. It offers Websphere users the JSP world's first visual tool for building applications without coding that incorporate dynamic Web interfaces to databases and other sophisticated functionality required for e-business. Drumbeat 2000 (JSP) debuts at JavaOne this week and will be available starting tomorrow for download directly from Elemental Software at www.Drumbeat.com for a limited time introductory special offer of $249.
"This product represents a tremendous boost and headstart for JSP developers," said Peter Hirshberg, CEO of Elemental Software. "We've taken a wealth of knowledge about what people want to do in e-business and incorporated it into wizards, hundreds of reusable JavaBean-based objects and interactions, and prebuilt application templates that put them together in predictable ways to support most-requested functions. In addition, because Drumbeat eliminates the need for manual coding, companies can meet exploding demand by better leveraging scarce programming talent while enabling less technical Web developers to move beyond static sites to real e-business applications."
JSP and JavaBeans are key parts of IBM's overall strategy for providing open solutions that integrate with existing IT departments. WebSphere allows customers to use this technology to build scaleable, secure applications across a wide variety of platforms including Unix and Netscape Enterprise Servers. Drumbeat provides the fastest way of developing e-business applications for these standard platforms using standard, reusable components.
"Drumbeat 2000 lets me create the kind of dynamic web applications that my clients need," said leading developer Ray Borduin, WebAssist.com. "Now I can bring that same development speed and productivity to Java, which is increasingly in demand as the open platform of choice for Web applications. Drumbeat's ease-of-use allows even those who don't have extensive Java skills to harness the power of JSP and JavaBeans and deploy real e-business solutions."
Point-and-Click JSP
Drumbeat previously gained widespread recognition for the speed and ease with which it generates Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP), and is now bringing its industry-leading capabilities to the Java platform.
-- The Drumbeat DataForm Wizard allows developers to create JSP database applications -- without having to code -- that automatically include dropdown lists, list boxes, edit boxes, radio buttons, check boxes, sliders and more than 20 other UI elements to browse, search, view and update databases. -- Point and Click Interactions control of JavaBeans makes it much simpler for developers to provide Web interfaces to IT and commercial applications, to maintain state across pages within an application, and to create multipage forms. The product ships with more than 300 interactions, including such functions as database access and filtering, password protection, profile-based access, data validation, and state management. -- DrumNotes are examples and how-to documentation for the most-requested application functionality and techniques, including using cookies, emailing form data using JSP components, creating multi-page forms, and validating data entry. -- StartingPoints prebuilt application templates, bundled with Drumbeat 2000, include dynamic applications for employee directory, corporate intranet, asset management, guest book, and visitor registration.
Drumbeat 2000 (JSP) for IBM WebSphere is the first product for JSP from Elemental Software. Future versions of Drumbeat will support additional JSP-based servers to maximize the scalability, portability and cross-platform nature of Java. Developers of the range of Java platforms will be empowered with the same realtime database connectivity and rich programmatic functionality afforded by Drumbeat.
Elemental Software, an official member of the JSP Specification team, will participate in the JavaOne Birds-of-a-Feather session on Java Specification to further facilitate the wide-spread adoption of JavaServer Pages. Elemental Software will be also present at IBM's Java Strategies Day today at the Hotel Monaco in San Francisco.
