The MathWorks Opens Web Store for Ordering MATLAB, Simulink Software and Services Online
Business Wire, June 17, 1999
NATICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1999--
The MathWorks, Inc. today announced a new online purchasing option, The MathWorks Store (www.mathworks.com/store), for customers in the United States and Canada. The MathWorks Store offers convenient ordering of all generally available MathWorks software products, including MATLAB, its leading technical computing environment, Simulink, an environment for block diagram modeling, and their companion products.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, The MathWorks Store offers two buying options: one for new customers and one for current users of MATLAB. New customers may view pricing, purchase products for the first time, and order additional documentation. Existing customers can add products to current licenses, update existing licenses, and purchase annual subscription renewal. For site administrators, the store makes it easy to work with multiple copies and configurations of The MathWorks' products. Billing and shipping profiles for the MATLAB Access members are kept on-line - they do not need to re-submit any standard information.
"The Store was clear and straightforward," said longtime MATLAB user Terence Gordon at the University of Calgary in the Geology and Geophysics Department. "While browsing, it was critical to see the descriptions of the add-on toolboxes online as well as the lists of functions and principle components. I would buy from The MathWorks Store again."
At the checkout, payment is easy and convenient - pay immediately with a credit card via a secure transmission or fax a purchase order for later billing. Customers see a confirmation screen to verify purchases once an order is submitted and may print the screen as a receipt. An additional message that includes the order confirmation number is sent via e-mail.
Todd McNary at Ford Motor Company said of The MathWorks Store, "Great! Nice layout, simple. I didn't have problems finding anything."
"The MathWorks online store offers users the information they need to make a purchasing decision and place an order online," said Patrick Hanna, manager of database and Web marketing at The MathWorks. "It combines three essential components for a successful electronic commerce process: valuable information, ease of navigation, and a convenient shopping experience."
