Business Wire, June 2, 1999

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 1999--

The display division of White Electronic Designs Corp. (AMEX:WHT) today announced it has received an order from Sanders, a Lockheed Martin Company, for an Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) for use in a defense avionics application. This order will result in WHT bookings of approximately $1 million dollars of revenue for this program during 1999.

The 16.1'' display will be aboard the ASA-82 in the tactical area of the aircraft for radar, communications and surveillance. White was able to work with Sanders and the Navy to provide a ruggedized AMLCD that will withstand the shock and vibration tests required. Shipping will run through the end of the calendar year, 1999.

"Our unique lamination process was integral in helping Sanders achieve their environmental requirements," states Dan Doyle, vice president and general manager of the display division for White Electronic Designs Corp. "This particular process also became a milestone for us. This is the largest size glass we have laminated to date that qualified for a true defense avionics application. This will lead the way for sizes of 18.1'' and larger to address the large area display market."

"This is the second time in three years White has provided an answer to a difficult display issue," stated Michael Heffron, Sanders' vice president, engineering. "In the instance of the ASA-82, White came into the program at a time when we needed technical assistance to meet some very difficult specifications. With White's assistance Sanders and the Navy came away with a good solution."

"I am extremely pleased with the continuous accomplishments of our display products division," stated Hamid Shokrgozar, CEO of White Electronic Designs Corp. "We believe that flat panel displays will be replacing the older displays in the cockpits of Navy fighter jets and other aircraft, ships and ground vehicles used for defense applications. While our competitors are exiting this market, White Electronic Designs is committed to supporting this industry."
