Business Wire, June 21, 1999

STURBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 1999--

Galileo Corporation (NASDAQ:GAEO) announced today that Ralf Faber has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Optical Filter Corporation (OFC), a Galileo subsidiary, effective July 1, 1999. Mr. Faber will replace John F. Blais, Jr., the founder and current President and C.E.O of OFC, who is planning to retire. Mr. Blais will continue as a director of Galileo and a consultant to OFC.

Most recently, Mr. Faber has been Division Manager, Optics Deposition Systems, for Leybold Systems, GmbH in Hanau, Germany. In that capacity, he was responsible for the development, manufacturing and worldwide marketing of coating systems. Previously, he held a number of engineering and development positions in the field of optical coatings. Mr. Faber has a degree in Process Technology from the University of Mannheim, Germany, and he is widely known in the rapidly growing Dense Wavelength Division Multiplex (DWDM) sector of the telecommunications industry. DWDM permits the transmission of multiple, simultaneous signals on a single strand of fiber optic cable. It thus enables Telecom Operators to economically meet the explosive demand for global "bandwidth."

W. Kip Speyer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Galileo, commented, "We are very pleased to have Ralf Faber join the Galileo/OFC team. He brings with him a unique combination of technical background and management experience which will enable us to further strengthen our leadership position in OFC's markets and will contribute significantly toward our new product development programs. We are also very grateful for the contribution Jack Blais has made to OFC. As a result of his technical expertise and leadership, OFC has become one of the leading suppliers in the field of optical coatings. We appreciate that he will continue to contribute to the planned future growth of the Company as a consultant."
