Business Wire, June 4, 1999
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 1999--
OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, welcomed major XML users, The Boeing Company and Sabre, as new sponsors of the international XML consortium.
These new members signify the expanding XML marketplace and are the most recent additions to OASIS' growing population of user members.
"OASIS is the one place where major XML users from around the world come together to work with vendors on advancing structured information standards," commented Bill Smith, vice president of OASIS. Smith's company, Sun Microsystems, is a long-standing user member of OASIS. "OASIS helps users protect the investment they're making in XML by playing a key role in defining and resolving interoperability issues."
"As one of the largest publishers in the world with some of the most challenging publishing requirements, Boeing benefits significantly from the application of structured information standards," explained Doug Alberg, a Boeing senior product manager. "It is important for us to support the creation, dissemination and adoption of these standards."
"Our vested interest in OASIS stems from our belief that accelerating the adoption of product-independent formats based on public standards will enhance Sabre's functionality and cost effectiveness of solutions delivered to our customers," said Eric Garcia, vice president of planning & communications for Sabre strategic architecture.
The Boeing Company, after its merger in 1997 with McDonnell Douglas and acquisition in 1996 of the defense and space units of Rockwell International, became the largest aerospace company in the world. Its history mirrors the history of aviation. Boeing is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners, military aircraft and the nation's largest NASA contractor.
Sabre (NYSE:TSG) is a world leader in the electronic distribution of travel and is a leading provider of information technology solutions for the travel and transportation industries, including customized software development and software products, transaction processing, consulting and total information technology outsourcing.
OASIS (www.oasis-open.org/) is a non-profit, international consortium dedicated solely to product-independent data and content interchange. Focusing on product interoperability, OASIS embraces the complete spectrum of structured information standards including XML, SGML and CGM. OASIS operates XML.ORG, the first global XML industry portal featuring an XML registry and repository that offers automated public access to XML schemas for electronic commerce, business-to-business transactions, and tools and application interoperability. OASIS sponsors include Adobe Systems, AND-USA, Arbortext, Chrystal Software, DPSL, DataChannel, DMSi, Enigma, Graphic Communications Association, IBM, Inso, Interleaf, ISOGEN, Object Design, Open Market, POET Software, Reed Technology, Sabre, SoftQuad, Software AG, Sorman Information, STEP, Sun Microsystems, Synthbank, WavePhore and XyEnterprise.
