ECI Telecom Introduces Single Pair Carrier Solutions for 56K Modems At Supercomm 99, USA

Business Wire, June 9, 1999

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1999--

ECI Telecom Ltd. (NASDAQ/NM symbol: ECILF) today announced two Single Pair Carrier (SPC(tm)) solutions that enable network service providers to offer their subscribers multiple phone lines which fully support V.90 modems over existing copper infrastructure.

ECI Telecom's SPC(tm) pair gain solutions immediately increase the capacity of the existing copper plant, eliminating the need for new copper wiring, special equipment and additional staff training. The system multiplexes two or four telephone lines onto a single non-loaded cable pair, doubling or quadrupling the capacity of the existing twisted pair.

"Until now, network service providers using "loop electronics" equipment to provide additional lines, faced a technical challenge when serving customers with 56 kbps modems", said Mr. Gary Davison, President of ECI Telecom's North American Operations. "Although such subscribers could enjoy speeds greater than 33.6 kbps over direct copper, modem performance was significantly lower over "universal mode" lines that use any "loop electronics" technologies. This resulted in numerous customer complaints and a considerable increase in service costs for the Network Service Provider. ECI Telecom is the first to introduce a high quality service solution for 56kbps modems. The SPC system is completely transparent to all CLASS features, and provides a pair gain device that supports V.90 modems and is spectrally compatible with HDSL, ADSL and ISDN", continued Mr. Davison.

ECI Telecom's SPC system consists of shelves of Central Office Terminals (COTs) that can be mounted in standard racks in the central office, and a family of Remote Terminals (RTs) that can be located near or at the subscriber premises. With ECI Telecom's extensive installed base of equipment, Network Service Providers can simply upgrade from one existing ECI Telecom product to another. This provides a distinct competitive advantage that maximizes capital investment, improves response to market, saves money and improves margins with a technology that is well understood and easily deployable. ECI Telecom is the first pair gain equipment vendor to announce this type of solution.
