Actify's 3D View Adds Supports for Viewing Autodesk's Mechanical Desktop Software
Business Wire, March 11, 1999
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1999--Actify's 3D View(TM) adds support for Autodesk's(R) Mechanical Desktop(R) software which includes 3D parts and assemblies, DWG, DXF, SAT and 3DStudio.
Actify's 3D View facilitates sharing and exchanging CAD models between CAD designers and other non-CAD professionals such as managers, suppliers, customers, sales, marketing and other engineers. 3D View is unique in that it runs as a standalone desktop application with no CAD system or server required. It makes visualizing Mechanical Desktop data as easy as using a web browser or word processor. Moreover, it is very affordably priced at $240, enabling everyone involved in design and manufacturing to own a copy.
Mark Gisi, Actify's director of marketing, explains that support for Mechanical Desktop was an obvious step, considering the widespread popularity of Autodesk (Nasdaq:ADSK) software. Mechanical Desktop has sold over 120,000 copies and is the industry's most popular parametric feature-based solid, assembly and surface modeling solution for mechanical design on Windows 95, 98 and NT. The software is tightly integrated with AutoCAD, and Autodesk's DWG format.
According to Dr. Cristiano Sacchi, Actify's vice president of software development, "By supporting Mechanical Desktop and Autodesk's DWG, our customers will have immediate access to billions of digital drawings and 3D models. This represents tremendous progress toward our ultimate goal of removing paper from the product development life cycle."
Brad Juhasz, Autodesk's MCAD partner marketing manager, adds, "Mechanical Desktop customers are most concerned with driving down cycle time in product development. Collaboration and visualization tools like 3D View play a crucial role in our customers' processes, integrating feedback from design, analysis, manufacturing and other departments at ever earlier stages."
