Rainbow Technologies' iKey Model m2 Now Available With Secure Digital Certificate Storage and 1024-Bit RSA Support

Business Wire, March 15, 1999

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 1999--Rainbow Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:RNBO) a leading provider of high-performance security solutions for the Internet and E-Commerce, today announced that digital certificate storage and 1024-bit RSA support through PKCS Number 11 are available with Model m2 of the iKey, a USB (Universal Serial Bus)-based cryptographic authentication token.

The new model allows users to sign, verify and securely store up to four digital certificates, providing an additional level of verification when accessing data over the Internet.

"With the addition of digital certificate storage and RSA support, Rainbow's iKey is positioned to be a significant player in a US market that was $280 million in 1998, and is projected to be a billion dollar plus market early in the next century," said Walt Straub, Rainbow's president and CEO.

Rainbow's iKey is ideal for secure email, Web-based access control and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The iKey offers OEM providers of VPN and enterprise network solutions, as well as large end-user enterprises a lower cost alternative for strong authentication. With the iKey, they can implement strong token-based two-factor authentication utilizing X509v3 certs and LDAP directories for authentication services.

The iKey is IPSec/IKE compatible and is inserted directly into the USB port of a computer, eliminating the need to have a separate, expensive reader attached or integrated into the system. This solution is well suited for companies looking to deploy a low cost hardware-based authentication token to supplement or replace existing password-based schemes.

"The iKey offers a practical way to achieve hardware level security and convenience on Internet workstations," said Shawn Abbott, chief technology officer, Rainbow. "The addition of certificate storage and 1024-bit RSA cryptographic processing to the iKey was a natural progression in the continued development of our client authentication family line."
