MURRAY HILL, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 1999--
Company Joins Common Content Inspection API Industry Working Group
to Develop Standards-Based Alternative for Content Security
In an effort to make content security an integral part of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Lucent Technologies today said it is integrating third party software from leading content security vendors Trend Micro and Log-On Data Corporation with its portfolio of Secure/VPN Solutions.
The move makes anti-virus scanning and content security filtering an integral part of a managed secure network, not just a function performed by firewalls and individually managed desktop computers.
Customers will now be able to easily integrate Trend Micro's InterScan(R) VirusWall Anti-Virus Security Suite and/or Log-On Data Corporations X-Stop URL filtering server with the Lucent VPN Gateway and Lucent Managed Firewall. Trend Micro's InterScan(R) VirusWall Anti-Virus Security Suite provides anti-virus security features to block out e-mail or file viruses as they pass through the VPN or firewall. Log-On Data Corporation's X-Stop URL filtering server provides the ability to block content from inappropriate web sites. Trend Micro, is a leading maker of anti-virus software. Log-on Data, is a leading maker of URL blocking software.
"Trend Micro's leading network-based anti-virus solution is an ideal match for our high performance VPN and firewall networking devices," said Howie Gittleson, director of Lucent's Secure/VPN Solutions Group. "Both our products are focused on providing centrally managed security for distributed networks. Log-on Data's X-Stop brings a strong network-level solution to the problem of protecting corporate, government and educational users from inappropriate web sites.
"The integration of these two leading software solutions into our VPN Gateway and Lucent Managed Firewall portfolio gives us a hybrid VPN and firewall architecture that allows for secure VPNs, stateful firewall protection, and application content security, all integrated together," Gittleson added.
Lucent also said it has joined the Common Content Inspection API (CCIAPI), a voluntary, informal working group that is developing what it hopes will become an industry standard API for content security. This API will allow network-based security devices, such as the Lucent VPN Gateway and Lucent Managed Firewall, to work with anti-virus software and content filtering products to reach into Internet packets to find and block malicious code from passing through the security device. The new open standard will replace closed, proprietary content vectoring protocols used by some firewall vendors. Lucent will host the April CCIAPI meeting at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, N.J.
