Business Wire, March 17, 1999
MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1999--
Incumbent Competitive Local Exchange Carrier Inks $8.8 Million Deal
for Telcordia Technologies Service Assurance Software
Telcordia Technologies, formerly Bellcore, announced today that Frontier Corporation (NYSE: FRO) has purchased Telcordia's advanced Operations Support Systems (OSSs) to streamline its Rochester, NY-based exchange operations and ensure its customers the highest-quality communications services. The software will analyze telecommunications service quality to help Frontier identify and correct problems before customers are aware they exist.
Frontier, an integrated communications services provider, offers customers Internet, IP and data applications, long distance, local telephone and wireless services. The company will deploy Telcordia's solutions as part of its "best-in-class" product selection to support system infrastructure upgrades to prepare for the Year 2000, and in support of its ongoing efforts to improve customer service levels. The Telcordia software solutions will provide integrated fault and performance management for Frontier's local digital switches, transport facilities and Signaling System 7 (SS7) network.
"Customer service and network reliability are our core strengths, contributing greatly to Frontier's success," said Martin Mucci, chief executive officer of Frontier Telephone of Rochester, a subsidiary of Frontier Corporation. "Telcordia Technologies' products have the right combination of proven performance and leading-edge features, and with them, we are better armed to deliver advanced services with the quality level that our customers demand."
"Carriers today are seeking broad, robust solutions that allow them to automate their operations efficiently and cost-effectively," said Jerry Roberto, corporate vice president and group president of Telcordia's Operations Support Systems. "Our software solutions are proven and field-tested at the largest service providers, and will help Frontier address critical performance issues so it can effectively compete and succeed in the fight for market share."
The solutions Frontier will implement are from Telcordia's Element Activation and Service Assurance suites of products, designed to help service providers of all sizes compete and grow in the competitive telecommunications marketplace. Both product suites are based on client/server technology and feature Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs), making them flexible, scalable and affordable for a carrier at any stage of its development. The software solutions purchased by Frontier include:
-- The NMA(tm) system: Telcordia's NMA system is the world's leading
system for network surveillance. This network monitoring and
fault management system helps carriers quickly diagnose the root
cause of problems across entire multi-vendor networks, delivering
unprecedented network reliability.
-- The DCOS-2000(tm) system: This system manages telecommunications
network traffic data collection and analysis for
circuit-switched, signaling and data networks.
-- The NetPilot(tm) system: This solution automates signaling
configuration management across all equipment types. It provides
centralized, transparent provisioning of Common Channel Signaling
(CCS)/SS7 network elements, regardless of the equipment supplier,
and sets the stage for carriers to rapidly deploy advanced
services in the future.
