This new server delivers the ideal combination of 4-processor computing power and density to customers seeking high performance in space-constrained data center environment. The ProLiant 6400R complements Compaq's line of feature rich, space saving, rack servers, including the award-winning ProLiant 1850R, the record breaking ProLiant 6500 and a forthcoming, high-density 8-way server with Compaq/Intel-developed Profusion technology (see today's related Compaq news release). With the latest performance technology in an innovative 4U design, the ProLiant 6400R is the ideal platform for data center customers using external storage and back up solutions that require 4-way system performance to run demanding business applications, clustering solutions and active Internet, intranet and e-commerce implementations.
The ProLiant 6400R supports up to four Pentium III Xeon 500 MHz processors with integrated 512KB, 1MB or 2MB Level 2 cache, up to 4GB of high speed ECC protected memory, 64-bit PCI and a dual port 10/100 Ethernet network controller for optimum total system performance.
With high-availability features such as Compaq's patented push-button PCI Hot Plug, redundant hot plug fans, hot plug hard drives and optional redundant processor power modules, hot plug power supplies and NICs, the ProLiant 6400R delivers the highest level of fault resiliency. Additionally, this server has been tested by Compaq to support Windows NT Clusters providing customers with an industry-standard clustering solution that easily integrates into their growing IT environments.

With today's announcement, Compaq combines the latest, high-performance Pentium III Xeon 500 MHz processor technology from Intel with the flexible form factors and fault-resilient features of Compaq's enterprise-class ProLiant servers. New models include the ProLiant 6000, 6500 and 7000--the industry's best selling industry-standard servers(2).
The ProLiant 7000 supports up to four Pentium III Xeon 500 MHz processors with integrated 1 MB or 2 MB Level 2 cache, and is expandable to 8 GB of ECC protected memory. The ProLiant 6500 also supports up to four Pentium III Xeon 500 MHz processors with integrated 512KB, 1 MB or 2 MB Level 2 cache, and is expandable to 4GB of ECC protected memory. Both the ProLiant 7000 and 6500 will be upgradable to future 8-way processor technology. The ProLiant 6000 supports up to four Pentium III Xeon 500 MHz processors with integrated 512KB or 1 MB Level-2 cache (92MB cache is optional), is expandable to 8 GB of ECC protected memory, and features up to 218.4GB of internal storage capacity.
