Henninger Unveils Dual Format Edit Suite Featuring State-of-the-Art Sony High Definition Video System

Business Wire, March 22, 1999

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 1999--Henninger Media Services Inc. Friday took the wraps off its newly redesigned editing facility to the corporate, entertainment and communications community featuring a showpiece Sony High Definition Video Systems (HDVS)(R) installation called Edit 2.

The suite is distinguished by its singular ability to edit digitally in both SDTV and HDTV extending the Henninger tradition of early adoption and innovation of Sony technology into the era of digital television.

To emphasize its commitment to digital high definition television (HDTV), Henninger is also allocating greater hardware resources to the high definition technology that broadcasters and corporations are beginning to demand while offering its clients the most advanced, flexible and cost-effective post production technology on the market.

The Henninger facility is the first in the United States to install a Sony VPH-G90U High Definition Video Projector for a 106-inch client display. In addition, Henninger's Sony equipment now includes three HDW-500 HDCAM(R) VTRs, HDVS-7250 switcher, HDME-7000 multi-effects unit, HKPF-E/D270 encoder and decoder, HDW-700 HDCAM camcorder and BVE-9100 edit controller. Editing formats are 1035i, 1080i and 1080P 24-frame.

The HDTV suite also features a Pluto digital disk recorder with 2-hour record time, a Chyron Duet high definition character generator with lyrics graphics workstation and upconversion from Digital Betacam(R), D2, Betacam SP(R) and 1-inch formats. Henninger's history of early adoption and innovative application of Sony technology started with D-2 and continued with Digital Betacam.

Engineers and editors at Henninger Capitol were the first to make Sony digital video switchers convert between component and composite modes. Now, a Henninger team led by Chief Engineer Brad Hughes has made the HDVS-7000 run both HD and SDTV digital video switchers.

"HD is incredible and we really wanted our clients to be able to use it," said Michael David, general manager of Henninger's Arlington facility. "Building a dual format suite allows us to offer HD to a much wider range of productions."

Rob Henninger, president and chief executive officer of Henninger Media Services, commented, "The Sony HDVS system allows us to present our clients with one of the most, if not the most, versatile and comprehensive range of post production services in the country. Even with the mass market absent for HDTV reception in these early stages, the fact that we keep pushing the envelope in the technology we offer makes a statement that Henninger will maintain its market leadership."

"Sony has worked with Henninger Media Services throughout the development of Sony's digital production tools including the entire line of digital switchers, digital multi-effects systems and edit controllers," said Robert Coleman, vice president of production and post production for Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company.

"They have been a beta site and an early adopter and their commitment to Sony's high definition systems clearly positions them at the top of the industry for innovation and achievement."
