Business Wire, March 22, 1999

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--

Linux, Satellite Transfer and Highly Available RAID Storage Devices Combine to Provide Powerful ISP and Hospitality Industry Applications

Helius Inc., MTI Technology Corp. (Nasdaq:MTIC) and Caldera Systems Inc. Monday announced plans to demonstrate solutions for large file data distribution and storage at the BrainShare conference.

The high-speed and universal coverage of satellite transfer, large capacity RAID and the stability of Linux will provide strong product applications for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to cache Internet data and allow the hospitality industry to distribute and store entertainment digitally.

"Because the volume of digital information is increasing so rapidly, there is a great need for methods of reliably transferring and storing valuable content," said Myron Mosbarger, president of Helius. "Our recently released Helius Satellite Router makes accessing data via satellite easier than ever before.

"Now, by integrating it with MTI's industry standard mass storage, we deliver a single product for distributing and storing the vast amounts of content-rich digital information."

"High-speed access to digital content is extremely important in many market segments," said Kevin J. Liebl, vice president of marketing for MTI Technology Corp. "Internet Service Providers and other Internet-related businesses are looking for ways to cache data for higher performance.

"Video-on-demand and high-speed Internet access are key applications in the hospitality industry. The solution we are demonstrating at BrainShare is an excellent application of technology to solve business issues."

"This is the ultimate network appliance," said Ransom Love, chief executive officer of Caldera Systems Inc. "The integration of these technologies allows customers in remote locations with high data requirements to be quickly and fully connected to the Internet with a single box. It's a first."

MTI's mission is to be the premier provider of high-performance, cross-platform data storage management solutions for the enterprise. MTI integrates distributed data management software, a hierarchy of modular storage systems and on-site services to meet the mass storage needs of its customers.
