with Least Transaction Impact Using Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
Continuing its leadership in providing comprehensive storage-management solutions for the Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) environment, Hewlett-Packard Company today announced HP OpenView OmniBack II support for the Active Directory directory service in the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system. HP OpenView OmniBack II is the first solution to provide highly reliable data-protection services for Windows 2000 server environments.
"Microsoft is pleased that HP is adding support for Windows 2000 and its Active Directory in the proven HP OpenView OmniBack products," said Edmund Muth, group product manager, Windows NT Server & Infrastructure, at Microsoft Corp. "Customers will benefit from high-quality backup and recovery solutions for their Windows 2000 server environments, especially as they deploy Windows 2000 in more and more mission-critical environments."
HP OpenView OmniBack II reliably protects the Active Directory, Certificate and File Replication services for Windows 2000 environments. It also provides backup and restore of the Windows 2000 file system, including support for volume mount points, directory junctions and the encrypted file system. HP currently offers high-performance storage-management solutions for distributed Windows NT servers and Windows NT server clustering environments.
HP and Microsoft Benchmarks Produce Industry-leading Results
HP also announced completion of backup tests with HP OpenView OmniBack II and Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, evidence of the company's high-availability capabilities and leadership in low-impact backup technologies. Results, posted today at www.openview.hp.com/omniback and www.microsoft.com/sql, show backup transactions of 622GB/hour, the industry's fastest throughput with the least impact on the transaction-processing rate of the database. The results prove backing up and restoring large Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 databases can be accomplished with minimal disruption to database productivity at the high data rates required in mission-critical applications.
In addition to record-breaking backup speed, HP OpenView OmniBack II implements all backup and restore features of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, including full, differential and parallel database backups, and backup of single databases on multiple devices. It also provides key enterprise features, including multiplatform support; centralized backup and media management; and Java(TM)-based notification, reporting and monitoring.
"More and more enterprise customers are using SQL Server 7.0 in mission-crith HP OpenView OmniBack II. These tests confirm HP OpenView OmniBack II's position as one of the industry's fastest, most comprehensive, proven solutions for meeting these important requirements."
