N@CS TECH; NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 1999--
Point of Sale System Enabling UDF to Integrate Gas Pump and
Convenience Store Services into Existing Format
Point of Sale Limited (Nasdaq: POSIF) announced today that United Dairy Farmers, a leading Ohio-based dairy and convenience store chain, has successfully installed the company's C-Point enterprise-wide convenience store software solution in its 100th store. United Dairy Farmers (UDF), which has realized measurable productivity gains from the C-Point solution during the past 10 months, plans to install the system in its remaining 112 stores by the end of 1999. StorePoint Inc. - Point-of-Sale Ltd.'s wholly owned, U.S.- based subsidiary - made the sale to UDF.
According to David Lindner, Vice President of Retail Operations at UDF, the company is realizing major productivity gains from C-Point. "Simply put, the C-Point system has enabled UDF to begin to realize our automation goals, which will make us a better run, more responsive organization. We developed our own proprietary touch-screen POS system in the early 1980's, so our automation experience aided us during the selection process. We evaluated five different vendors and C-Point not only met all of our existing needs, but also was the most flexible system that we saw."
With 212 stores, United Dairy Farmers, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, is one of the Mid-West's largest dairy and convenience store chains. Long known as a high-quality manufacturer and marketer of dairy products, especially their ice cream fountain offerings, UDF has aggressively expanded into a gas pump format over the past 10 years. With StorePoint's C-Point system, UDF integrates these separate business formats into one centrally managed, open architecture, retail management information system.
As an example of the system's flexibility, Lindner cites the fact that before installing C-Point, UDF was unable to integrate "Pay At The Pump," the sale of more than four fuel products, and the existing tank monitoring system into its POS. Now this functionality is tied together and centrally managed by C-Point. Furthermore, the system provides UDF with a critical sales and marketing analysis tool that identifies the best-selling in-store items.
"Basically, it gives us a better picture of shoppers' behavior and tells us which products are selling best, thereby enabling us to fine-tune our own purchasing policies and in-store promotions," said Lindner. "It also enables us to determine exactly what products are being `sold,' as opposed to what is being `delivered.' This provides us with more flexibility in coming to terms with our vendors and distributors. Moreover, C-Point has significantly decreased the amount of time employees need to train and perform paperwork, and has enabled us to fully automate our payroll and employee timesheets program."
C-Point is StorePoint's "host-to-post" convenience store solution, which provides feature-rich applications and support for ongoing store activities in both the headquarters (where the "host" computers are located) in the back office of the store, and the point-of-sale, or "post." UDF purchased a number of add-on modules to C-Point including BackOffice, Credit Authorization, Fuel Control, Corporate Host, Money Order and Safe Control.
Doug Fick, StorePoint's Vice President of Sales and Marketing added, "United Dairy Farmers is an interesting account for us to pursue since they are a second generation POS user. Now, with the C-Point system, they will enjoy greater flexibility and a long-term solution to meet present and future requirements."
