Loyola Law School: Case Closed; Core Leads Rapid Implementation of Exeter System

Business Wire, March 9, 1999

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1999--Administrators at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, are breathing a little bit easier now thanks to help from Core Technology Group, a California-based systems integrator.

In 1995, the law school determined it had plenty of time to replace a series of 15 year-old, stand-alone student service applications that were not Y2K compliant with a new integrated suite. But after four frustrating years filled with ongoing product evaluations and even one supplier going out of business, pressure to make the switch rose.

In the spring of 1998, Loyola Law School, which has 1,400 students, selected the Exeter Student Suite from Education Management Systems Inc., Cambridge, Mass. To speed deployment in November, the law school called upon Core, which had already helped the university's offices deploy Oracle Financials from Oracle Corp., Redwood Shores, Calif.

Core personnel became de facto project leaders and were responsible for developing a project plan; evaluating Exeter's proposal and personnel; reviewing and recommending project materials and documentation; designing training and test courses; and keeping a law school steering committee abreast of project issues, directions, and most importantly progress.

The pressure to deploy a new system soon began to dissipate as the law school met important milestones. Only six weeks after Core had begun working on the project, the law school brought up Exeter's Student Marketing System (an admissions module). The law school is now on track to deploy Exeter's Student Services System (a registration system) and Student Billing System before fall classes begin and Student Aid System and Career Management System by the end of the year.

The new suite will offer the law school many benefits. The Exeter system will be simpler to use than the previous applications, which ran on an IBM System/36. The new administrative software will replace a terminal-based interface with a graphic user interface first and later with a World Wide Web browser so law school administrators can manipulate information more easily.

Exeter was selected for its compatibility with Oracle tools and RDBMS to allow for integration with the university's financial applications. Core is supplying necessary database base administration support and insuring that databases have robust designs, applications meet response time requirements, security checks are in place so students cannot alter information, and strict backup procedures are in place in case unexpected problems arise.

Established in 1985, Core Technology Group specializes in bringing modern business systems, such as Enterprise Resource Planning, Operations Resource Planning Systems, and E-Commerce Systems to major companies with both local and global operations. Core has recently performed implementations at companies, such as Plantronics, Specialized Bike, Onsale, VISA, Aurora Biosciences, Cisco Systems, and Novell. Core's dedicated team of professionals has compiled a superior track record of quality service, timely responsiveness and teamwork for hundreds of customers.
