ViewSonic Uses Genesis Chip for Image Processing; Latest 14-inch LCD Monitor Employs Genesis Device
Business Wire, March 9, 1999
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1999--Genesis Microchip (Nasdaq:GNSS) announced today ViewSonic(R)'s VP140-2 LCD flat-panel monitor utilizes a Genesis integrated circuit (IC) for high-quality image processing.
An upgrade of the VP140 XGA monitor, ViewSonic's VP140-2 weighs only 12.1 pounds (6.8 pounds without base) -- a fraction of a traditional CRT display's weight -- and takes up as little as 10% of the space. The monitor can be configured for desktop swivel use or slim line wall displays -- plus it displays a full 14-inch viewable area which is larger than the viewable area of a standard 15-inch CRT monitor. This combination of large screen, small footprint and unique portability makes the ViewSonic VP140-2 ideal for the corporate business, medical, government and financial environments.
The VP140-2 monitor's active-matrix LCD technology produces images of exceptional quality that are displayed full-screen, regardless of the source resolution. These capabilities are provided by the Genesis gmZ2 chip.
The gmZ2 -- an improved and low-cost alternative to the industry-leading gmZ1 IC -- produces outstanding graphics/text and high-quality video. The chip also provides highly effective auto-detection and auto-configuration support. Monitors using the chip allow consumers to plug the monitor into any standard PC and view a variety of resolutions, without any configuration hassles or compatibility problems.
Since 1991, ViewSonic Display Technology products have won more than 500 awards from independent publications, and are widely recognized as the best display solutions throughout the world. ViewSonic's leadership position is further supported by leading research firms such as DisplaySearch and Stanford Resources, Inc. In their latest Supply vs. Demand Study reflecting fourth quarter 1998 results, DisplaySearch ranks ViewSonic as the No. 1 best selling flat panel display in the United States. In addition, Stanford Resources' Monitrak Q4 '98 report recognizes ViewSonic as the leading independent monitor brand in the United States.
Genesis designs, manufactures and markets the ImEngine line of highly integrated semiconductors for a variety of imaging and digital display applications. Customers include Acer, Apple Computer, Dell Computer, Fujitsu Ltd., Hitachi Ltd., IBM, In Focus Systems, LG Electronics, Philips, Samsung Electronics, Sharp Corp., Siemens, Silicon Graphics Inc., Sony Corp., Texas Instruments and more than 200 other companies.
Genesis Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS) -- an ISO9001-registered company -- is a global leader in imaging and digital video/graphics processing technologies.
