LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1999--
MRV Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:MRVC), a leading provider of high-speed optical network components and systems, Wednesday announced that its Layer 3 Redundant Gigabit Switch Router under its NBase-Xyplex brand name was named the best new product in the WAN and Remote Access category of the Best of Show Awards program by Data Communications and InternetWeek editors.
"We are extremely pleased that our Redundant CPU Gigabit Switch is being recognized with the grant of one of the industry's most prestigious awards," said Noam Lotan, president and chief executive officer of MRV Communications. "This award recognition validates our superior technology and confirms the GFS3016 as an industry leader."
The NetWorld Interop Best of Show Product Awards is designed to help end-users evaluate the expansive offering of new products that debut at the NetWorld Interop '99 Las Vegas.
The editors of Data Communications and InternetWeek, two of CMP Media's premier networking publications, evaluate hundreds of new products and select winners for unique and innovative products that provide end users with cutting edge networking benefits.
"Networking is currently undergoing a significant evolution, and this was obvious at the show by the plethora of new products -- creating the most hotly contested competition since the inception of Best of Show," said Lee Keough, editor-in-chief of Data Communications.
Introduced last month, the GFS3016 is the first product on the market to integrate Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) and Gigabit Ethernet. This fully redundant system enables maximum network uptime and enhances Gigabit technology to a new extreme. The GFS3016 is currently available, and has been successfully installed in several Japanese government institutions and universities.
