Business Wire, May 13, 1999
VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1999--
RetrievalWare to Power AVATAR Digital Asset
Management System (ADAMS)(tm)
Excalibur Technologies (NASDAQ:EXCA), a leading provider of digital asset management and knowledge retrieval solutions, today announced that it has signed an integration and OEM agreement with Progressive Technology Federal Systems, Inc. (PTFS). The agreement calls for PTFS to integrate Excalibur RetrievalWare(R), Excalibur's high performance search and retrieval application, into PTFS's AVATAR Digital Asset Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS is the first ever Web based "turn-key" solution for archiving, managing, retrieving and disseminating 100% of an organization's digital assets ranging from archived photographs, rare books, full text imaged and electronic documents, digital video/audio, and virtually any type of digital object.
ADAMS ArchivalWare(tm) is a Web based retrieval system powered by RetreivalWare's advanced search technology which combines pattern recognition with a powerful semantic network of more than 400,000 word meanings and 1.6 million word associations that are embedded within RetrievalWare. Excalibur's pattern recognition identifies patterns in digital code enabling it to recognize alternative spellings in words or sentences while the semantic network enables users to perform natural language searches that draw on a myriad of word meanings, related words, and concepts.
John Yokley, PTFS President, commented, "PTFS's creative development and application of new technologies including image enhancement along with over a year of extensive software development allows ADAMS capture solutions to clean up and create accurate searchable text from documents which would previously need to be manually re-keyed. This capability when combined with Excalibur's advanced pattern recognition and semantic search ability provides a solution which can cost effectively digitize and retrieve searchable text from archived materials that date back over 200 years. ADAMS automatically links original images to text allowing the user to view the original document as it appeared decades ago! Several PTFS clients have indicated that they have been waiting for this solution for years."
